Hi I am a newbie and just started collecting ags. First of all what is a PM doll? What is the difference between a Mattel doll and a regular doll? Just tell me everything I need to know!

Welcome!!! PM is pre-mattel. The pre-mattel dolls were chubbier in some instances. A lot had eyelashes that matched their hair color. I like the skin tone of PM's too. And they are becoming quite the collectible!!! That is the extent of my limited knowledge! LOL Again, welcome!!!

Now you need your first course in Newbie 101--

Click in the Frequently Asked Questions at the top of the main page, UNDER the "All members agree to abide by the message board rules" note*,then scroll down to the bottom, and click on Sarah's American Girl Doll FAQ's.

The only main piece of info not mentioned there is that Mattel bought Pleasant Company in 1998--all dolls produced after that year are referred to as "Mattel" dolls, and all produced before then are called "pre-Mattel" or just PM. (We also use PM as a verb meaning to "private message" someone--you just have to go by context.)

*Which I also strongly advise you to read--this can prevent hurt feelings from unknowingly violating the rules.
